The single tree selection method is one of the “close to nature” forestry methods, and different findings of its implementation in forests have been reported. In this research, in order to determine the possible changes due to the implementation of management, the indicators of the herbaceous species diversity within gaps of a single- tree selection-managed and an unmanaged beech forest were compared. The cover percentage of all herbaceous species in five sample plots (one in the center and the rest in the four main directions of each gap) were identified and recorded. Cluster analysis was used to classify the gaps with different sizes. 17 and 21 herbaceous species were identified in the gaps of the managed and unmanaged compartments, respectively. Some of the species were present only in the managed and some only in the unmanaged compartment. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the diversity indices of herbaceous species between the two study compartments. Also, the result of cluster analysis showed that the gaps in the management compartment were not classified from those of unmanaged compartment based on herbaceous composition. Generally, selection based management has not significant effect on herbaceous composition and diversity in the created gaps after a decade period.
